Choosing

Three tips for picking colours

  • Match something on the house. The roof, the gutters or the window frames — the patio then looks like it was always there.
  • Keep the ceiling light. On an insulated roof a Surfmist ceiling keeps the space bright, even with a dark roof on top.
  • Think about heat. Lighter roof colours stay cooler in the Queensland sun, especially on single skin.

Insulated patio with a light ceiling

Can the ceiling be a different colour from the roof?

Yes. Insulated panels are made with two colours — one for the roof on top and one for the ceiling underneath. Surfmist (an off-white) is the most popular ceiling colour because it keeps the space bright.

Do darker roofs get hotter?

Yes, dark colours absorb more heat. On a single skin roof you feel it underneath; an insulated panel blocks most of it. Light colours like Surfmist and Shale Grey stay cooler.

Should my patio match my house roof?

Many people match the house roof or the gutters so the patio looks like part of the home. Others pick the house trim colour for the beams and posts. We bring real samples to the on-site quote so you can see them against your house.
