Patios Pimpama
Patios for new Pimpama homes on small lots, designed to the Gold Coast City Plan and built in genuine Colorbond steel.
Your patio in Pimpama, start to finish
Pimpama has grown fast, and most homes are new, on small lots, often two storeys. The backyard is small and the alfresco under the main roof rarely fits a table for the family. A patio that extends it, insulated or as a flyover off a two-storey wall, is the job we see most.
Pimpama is in the City of Gold Coast, which has its own rules for carports in the front yard and detached outbuildings. We check your lot and any estate guidelines, then quote the full job, approval included. It is a short run down the M1 from our base.
- One team from quote to handover, no salespeople
- Genuine Colorbond and BlueScope steel, all engineered
- Plans, engineering and approval handled
What's different about building in Pimpama
Attached is simpler
On the Gold Coast, detached outbuildings on lots under 800 m² trigger an amenity assessment once they total more than 36 m². An attached patio is not counted, which makes it the easier route on a small lot.
Front carports need a referral
A carport in the front setback is not as of right on the Gold Coast. Council assesses each one, generally around 3 m to the fascia and 6 m wide, so we prepare the referral.
Sewer in small yards
City of Gold Coast wants footings at least 1 m from a small sewer main, and any footing within 1.5 m of it must be a bored or screw pier. In a small yard that often decides where the posts go.

Single skin
- The lowest-cost option
- Spans up to about 5 m between beams
- Can be built as close as 450 mm to a boundary (with approval)
- Hotter and louder in rain than insulated
- No downlights or fans in the roof
Best for: Carports, flyovers with good air flow, and budget builds.
From underneath you see the ribbed roof sheets and the steel purlins that hold them. Lights and fans fix to the beams.
Quote a single skin roof
Insulated panel
- Keeps the heat out — noticeably cooler underneath
- Quiet in rain
- Finished white (or coloured) ceiling, no visible purlins
- Downlights and ceiling fans built in
- Longer spans, fewer beams
Best for: Patios and outdoor rooms you will sit under and use all year.
From underneath you see a flat, finished ceiling, usually Surfmist, with downlights and a fan set straight into it. Thicker panels span further and insulate better.

Council rules for a patio in Pimpama
Pimpama is in the City of Gold Coast area, under the Gold Coast City Plan (version 14).
- The outbuilding trigger
- On lots under 800 m², detached class 10 buildings (such as a freestanding carport or shed) totalling more than 36 m², or over 4.5 m high, trigger an amenity assessment. The allowance steps up with lot size, to 54 m² for 800 to 2,000 m² and on up. Attached patios and attached carports are not counted.
- Canal lots
- Lots on canals carry building restrictions near the revetment wall, so a patio there needs care with footings.

Patios Pimpama: common questions
Do I need council approval for a patio in Pimpama?
An attached patio at the back needs a building approval, which we arrange, and usually nothing from council. Council gets involved if it misses a setback, sits near council pipes or is a raised deck that needs privacy screening.
Can I extend the alfresco on my new Pimpama home?
Yes. We extend off the alfresco beam or fly over it, and match the Colorbond colour to the roof. On a two-storey home a flyover keeps the light in the living room.
Can I put a carport in front of my garage in Pimpama?
Possibly, but it is not as of right on the Gold Coast. The City assesses each front setback carport, generally up to about 3 m high to the fascia and 6 m wide. We prepare the referral as part of the job.
