Patios Greenbank
Big patios, pool roofs and carports for Greenbank’s larger blocks and acreage, engineered for the site and approval handled.
Your patio in Greenbank, start to finish
Greenbank is mostly larger blocks: small acreage, bushland lots and family homes with a pool and a shed. The patios here are bigger than in town. A long roof across the back of the house, a freestanding roof over the pool, or a double carport with room beside it for the trailer are the common jobs.
On a bigger block the questions are different: how far from the road and the boundaries, how much is already under a roof, and whether the lot sits in the bushfire mapping. We check all of that before we price it. We are based in Chambers Flat, a short drive across.

What's different about building in Greenbank
Site cover on acreage
Logan caps site cover at 35% in its small acreage precinct and 20% in the acreage precinct. On a big block that is rarely the limit, but sheds, carports and patios all add up, so we count them.
Setbacks on larger lots
In Logan’s acreage precincts, buildings stay 10 m back from the road and 3 m from the side and rear boundaries. A freestanding patio or carport usually sits well inside that anyway.
Bushland lots
Land inside Logan’s bushfire hazard overlay is a designated bushfire prone area, so bushfire construction rules apply at the building approval. Steel framing and Colorbond roofing suit this; the details such as gaps and gutters change.
Several outbuildings
Logan lets sheds and carports add up to 150 m² before stricter clearances and a 5.5 m height limit apply, and over 300 m² the work needs council assessment. We add up what is already on the block first.

Tap one to see what you get.
Single skin
- The lowest-cost option
- Spans up to about 5 m between beams
- Can be built as close as 450 mm to a boundary (with approval)
- Hotter and louder in rain than insulated
- No downlights or fans in the roof
Best for: Carports, flyovers with good air flow, and budget builds.
From underneath you see the ribbed roof sheets and the steel purlins that hold them. Lights and fans fix to the beams.
Quote a single skin roof
Insulated panel
- Keeps the heat out — noticeably cooler underneath
- Quiet in rain
- Finished white (or coloured) ceiling, no visible purlins
- Downlights and ceiling fans built in
- Longer spans, fewer beams
Best for: Patios and outdoor rooms you will sit under and use all year.
From underneath you see a flat, finished ceiling, usually Surfmist, with downlights and a fan set straight into it. Thicker panels span further and insulate better.

Council rules for a patio in Greenbank
Greenbank is in the Logan City Council area, under the Logan Planning Scheme 2015 (version 9.2).
- Site cover depends on the precinct
- Logan sets the maximum roofed area by precinct, not just lot size: 60% in small lot areas, 50% in the standard suburban precinct, 40% large suburban, 35% small acreage and 20% (or 700 m²) on acreage. A patio counts, so on a tight lot we check this first.

Patios Greenbank: common questions
Can you build a freestanding roof over our pool in Greenbank?
Yes. A freestanding roof can sit beside or over a pool area, with posts placed so they do not make the pool fence climbable. Your certifier checks the pool fence side of it as part of the approval.
Does a bushfire rating change my patio?
It can. If your lot is in Logan’s bushfire overlay, a patio attached to or close to the house generally has to meet the same bushfire standard as the house. We check the mapping and design to it.
How big a carport can I build in Greenbank?
On acreage, Logan allows up to 150 m² of outbuildings in total before stricter clearances apply, and assesses anything over 300 m². Setbacks are 10 m to the road and 3 m to the sides and rear. We measure up and tell you what fits.
