Patios Shailer Park
Gable, flyover and insulated patios for Shailer Park homes, with pools, slopes and Logan council rules handled.
Your patio in Shailer Park, start to finish
Shailer Park is established and hilly, with larger homes, plenty of pools and backyards that fall away from the house. Patios here tend to be bigger and more finished: an insulated roof with downlights and a fan, a gable that matches the house, or a flyover to keep the light in a two-storey home.
A sloping block changes the posts, the footings and sometimes the approval, so we look at the fall of the land at the measure-up and price it in. The quote includes the plans, engineering and approval.

What's different about building in Shailer Park
Sloping blocks
Where Logan’s mapping shows a slope of 12% or more, building work needs a site-specific geotechnical report certified by an engineer. We check the landslide overlay for your lot first.
Pools and fences
Many Shailer Park patios sit next to a pool. Posts, beams and screens must not give a child a way over the pool fence, so we place them with the fence rules in mind.
Front carports
Logan lets an open carport up to 6 × 6 m and 3.5 m high sit on the front boundary without a referral. A gable roof on it usually suits the house better than a flat one.
Which patio suits your home?

Fixed to the fascia or a wall of your home. The most common and the best value.

Flyover
Raised above your gutter for extra height, air flow and a modern look.

Freestanding
Stands on its own posts, anywhere on your block.

Gable & hip
A pitched roof that matches your house. Attached, flyover or freestanding.

Louvred
Opening blades: sun when you want it, shelter when you need it.

Tap one to see what you get.
Single skin
- The lowest-cost option
- Spans up to about 5 m between beams
- Can be built as close as 450 mm to a boundary (with approval)
- Hotter and louder in rain than insulated
- No downlights or fans in the roof
Best for: Carports, flyovers with good air flow, and budget builds.
From underneath you see the ribbed roof sheets and the steel purlins that hold them. Lights and fans fix to the beams.
Quote a single skin roof
Insulated panel
- Keeps the heat out — noticeably cooler underneath
- Quiet in rain
- Finished white (or coloured) ceiling, no visible purlins
- Downlights and ceiling fans built in
- Longer spans, fewer beams
Best for: Patios and outdoor rooms you will sit under and use all year.
From underneath you see a flat, finished ceiling, usually Surfmist, with downlights and a fan set straight into it. Thicker panels span further and insulate better.

Council rules for a patio in Shailer Park
Shailer Park is in the Logan City Council area, under the Logan Planning Scheme 2015 (version 9.2).
- Site cover depends on the precinct
- Logan sets the maximum roofed area by precinct, not just lot size: 60% in small lot areas, 50% in the standard suburban precinct, 40% large suburban, 35% small acreage and 20% (or 700 m²) on acreage. A patio counts, so on a tight lot we check this first.

Patios Shailer Park: common questions
Can you build a patio on a sloping block in Shailer Park?
Yes. We set the post heights and footings to the fall of the land. If the lot is mapped at a slope of 12% or more, Logan asks for a geotechnical report, which we arrange.
Can a patio go right up to my pool fence?
It can go close, but posts and beams must not make the fence climbable. We plan the post positions around the pool fence rules and your certifier checks them.
Gable or flat roof for a Shailer Park patio?
If your house has a pitched roof and the patio is visible, a gable usually looks better and gives a higher ceiling. A flat skillion roof is simpler and suits modern homes. We show you both at the quote.
