South East Queensland storms bring strong, sudden winds. Every patio and carport we build is engineered for the wind at your address — not a generic number.
What N2 and N3 mean
Australian homes are given a wind classification — N1 to N6 in non-cyclonic areas — based on the region, the terrain, how sheltered the block is and the slope of the land. Most suburban homes in South East Queensland are N2 or N3; exposed hilltops, open acreage and coastal sites can be higher.
Why it changes the build
A higher wind rating means stronger fixings, bigger or more posts, deeper footings or closer beam spacing. That is why two patios of the same size can be engineered differently on two different blocks.
Freestanding and open structures
A freestanding roof or a carport open on several sides catches more wind underneath than an attached patio. The engineering accounts for that uplift with footings and tie-downs.
Cyclonic areas
Further north, cyclonic ratings apply. Our DIY carport kits can be supplied for cyclonic areas — ask us when you order.
What we do
We work out the wind classification for your site, and the engineering and approval documents are based on it. You do not need to know your rating before you call us.
